LAPTOP BUYING BRIEF

Buy the configuration. Not just the badge.

A practical checklist for comparing office laptops without getting lost in processor names.

01

Define the day’s work

List the applications, browser workload, meetings and local storage the employee actually uses. A laptop for routine admin and one for a developer may need different configurations. Decide what is limiting the current setup before buying a faster-looking replacement.

02

Get the complete model number

Ask for the manufacturer machine type, not only the product-family name. Match memory, screen, webcam, battery, keyboard language and Windows edition against that exact model. Ask whether the seller has upgraded any components.

03

Compare the complete desk cost

Include the dock, charging cable, external monitors and support. Confirm the connections required by the actual screens. A processor upgrade is not a substitute for enough memory, a useful display or a supported docking arrangement.

04

Check the service route

Confirm condition, returns, Canadian warranty eligibility and the organization that will handle repairs. For a team purchase, trial one configuration and document it before standardizing.

Put the checklist to work.
